Dutrion for Aqua

In aquaculture, chlorine dioxide has many different applications. The main application is improving water quality in commercial fishponds. Better water quality has positive effects on commercial fish production, fish larval rearing and prawn larval rearing. Chlorine dioxide helps to improve the water quality, which discourages diseases. Spraying in feeds is another application of Dutrion chlorine dioxide products.

Dutrion for Aquaculture:

While great care and attention are taken to minimize the risk of infection from processing staff and other food handlers, relatively ineffectual biocides and disinfectants are used to treat process water and equipment. Water, whether obtained from a municipal source or any other source, will always carry bacteria. Many are harmless but others may include fecal coliforms, E. Coli, salmonella, legionella, listeria, and deadly fish viruses. Dutrion is an excellent tool for fish/shrimp pond management, aiding the reduction of pathogen challenges, and limiting the risk of a disease outbreak.

What is Dutrion?

Dutrion is a chlorine dioxide (ClO₂) molecule that consists of one atom of chlorine (Cl) and two atoms of oxygen (O₂) These 3 atoms are held together by electrons to form the chlorine dioxide molecule. True chlorine dioxide is a gaseous substance. Dutrion ingredients are designed to be added into regular potable water. With its unique optimized formulation and combination of sodium chlorite, acidifiers, stabilizers etc., it will become a clear yellow stock solution that can be kept in a dark, cool, and sealed environment for up to 30 days.

Applications:

  • Disinfection of pond water during pond preparation and grow-out, and disinfection reservoir water
  • Removes the biofilm attached to the tanks, equipment and pipes including all filter components
  • Fumigation disinfection / decontamination
  • Periodically disinfection in the ponds
  • Disease prevention treatment
  • Fish/prawn larval rearing
  • Transport water treatment
  • Foul smell treatment
  • Disease treatment

Studies have shown that chlorine dioxide applied at the recommended level of 0.015 – 0.030 ppm every 7 days during the grow-out period can successfully control bacterial and viral pathogens in pond water without being harmful to fish and shrimp and do not contain a residue of concern.

Prevention and Maintenance:

Good biosecurity practices should focus on prevention and control of pathogen growth. It is generally accepted that the shrimp should only grow and thrive in an environment where the bacterial level in water is kept below the maximum disease threshold of 103 CFU/mL Dutrion, as part of a biosecurity protocol, is therefore a key tool in controlling pathogen levels in the pond.
